Adult Use Cannibas Public Comments
DEADLINE TO COMMENT IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 AT 4:30 P.M.
In August 2024, The State of Ohio issued the first round of licenses to prospective Adult Use Cannabis operators. Currently, Adult Use Cannabis dispensaries have begun operating within Ohio. As yet, no such licenses have been issued for dispensaries within Miami Township. In response to an emerging land use, many Ohio communities have begun adopting new zoning regulations to adapt.
Communities in Ohio have adopted a range of techniques to adapt their zoning codes to the rollout of Adult Use Cannabis. Roughly 3.5% of Ohio jurisdictions have prohibited cannabis sales entirely. Most other communities are adopting forms of control to moderate the new land use. These include:
- Prohibiting Adult Use Cannabis facilities located within a certain distance from “schools, public parks, public playgrounds, public libraries, and churches”
- Limiting the total number of Adult Use Cannabis facilities allowed to operate within the jurisdiction
- Limiting the concentration of Adult Use Cannabis facilities by setting a minimum distance allowed between any two facilities
To better understand the will of our Miami Township community, the Community Development Department would like to engage you in a Public Comment Period about the subject. We invite all community members to share your thoughts on Adult Use Cannabis in Miami Township. Should Adult Use Cannabis facilities be permitted to operate in Miami Township? If so, what kinds of restrictions (like those listed above) should be implemented? What other thoughts would you like to share about Adult Use Cannabis in Miami Township?
