Miami Township is the new home of a local teen’s Eagle Scout community service project. Trustees presented Boy Scout Eric Anderson, of Troop 402 in Miamisburg, with a special proclamation Wednesday, February 11, 2026, during a brief ceremony at the township government center.

“Miami Township takes immense pride in working with Scouting America and helping these young people reach their goals. The community is grateful to benefit from their many service projects,” Township Trustee President Terry Posey, Jr. said.Photo 1 Flag retirement box Miami Township 02112026

Anderson led a team of fellow scouts and volunteers to construct six American Flag Retirement Boxes.

“I was researching ideas for my service project, and the American Flag is very significant to me. A lot of people don’t have a place to go to retire flags properly, so I came up with these collection boxes,” Boy Scout Eric Anderson, Troop 402, said.

The retirement boxes serve as a respectful means to dispose of the American Flag. Citizens may dispose of their flags any time that the Miami Township Government Center lobby is open, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., 2700 Lyons Road.

There are five other drop-off locations nearby: the city of Miamisburg government building, Parkview Church, St. Henry’s Church, Our Lady of Good Hope, and St. Mary’s Church.
