[ARCHIVED] MTPD announces Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign

PD patch New 2020

The Miami Township Police Department is planning added enforcement of Ohio’s DUI laws during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, August 16 – September 2, 2024, through the Labor Day holiday.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 39% of 490 traffic crash fatalities nationwide involved a drunk driver during the 2022 Labor Day holiday period, September 2-6.

“Our first priority is to keep people safe,” Asst. Chief James McCarty, Miami Township Police Department, said. “By adding extra patrols, we can focus more attention on getting impaired drivers off the road and reduce the number of traffic crashes. We cannot stress enough the importance of designating a sober driver.”

Funds to support the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign are part of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant the police department received for 2024. For more information about impaired driving, visit www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/drunk-driving.
