The Miami Township Police Department’s National Night Out celebration is among the nation’s best, and this year’s event is adding a special kickoff celebration. The National Night Out Kickoff Celebration is Saturday, July 30, 2022, from Noon – 4 p.m., at the Dayton Mall. It precedes the traditional block parties held this year on Tuesday, August 2, beginning at 6 p.m. in neighborhoods across the township.

“We cannot be more excited about the kickoff at the Dayton Mall,” Assistant Police Chief John Magill said. “We will have a full slate of activities including a cruiser car show, games, music, even a dunk tank. The event will go on both inside and outside the Dayton Mall.”

In addition to the cruiser car show, other events include a bounce house, face painting/balloon art, drone demonstrations, pet a PD canine, meet the SWAT team, music and food thanks to Skyline Chili Dayton Mall and Meijer. The Community Blood Center’s Bloodmobile will also be at the mall. You must register to donate blood in advance. You could win Cincinnati Bengals season tickets.

This is the 29th year that the police department has participated in National Night Out. The township’s celebration ranked third in 2021 among communities with 15,000-50,000 people.

National Night Out promotes strong police-community partnerships. Township residents organize the neighborhood block parties that include food, music and games. It is a chance for neighbors to talk one-on-one with officers about neighborhood concerns. Officers can share crime prevention tips and get to know the people they serve in a relaxed setting.

“National Night Out is our way of developing strong relationships with residents,” Asst. Police Chief John Magill said. “The more we know about each other, the better we can serve the community. By helping each other, we can help prevent crime.”
