The Miami Township Police Department is celebrating its 25th year of participation in National Night Out. The township’s community gatherings rank among the best in the country and this year will be no exception. More than a dozen neighborhood block parties and the second annual community party at Austin Landing are planned for Tuesday, August 7, 2018, beginning at 6 p.m.
National Night Out promotes strong police-community partnerships. It is a chance for neighbors to talk one-on-one with officers about neighborhood concerns. Officers can share crime prevention tips and get to know the people they serve in a relaxed setting.
“National Night Out is our way of developing strong relationships with residents,” Capt. John Magill said. “The more we know about each other, the better we can serve the community. By helping each other, we can help prevent crime.”
Participants at the second annual Austin Landing celebration include the Miami Township branch of the Dayton Metro Library, Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, the Dayton Police Department’s Honor Guard and SWAT, and the Ohio Police Canine Memorial organization. New this year, visitors can sign up to donate blood in the Community Blood Center’s Bloodmobile. Go online to register at: https://www.donortime.com/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/56601.
