The Miami Township Board of Trustees voted to extend for six months a moratorium enacted under Resolution 065-2016 on Aug. 23, 2016, and extended under Resolution 014-2017 on February 14, 2017, on any permits allowing for medical marijuana businesses within the township. The resolution was passed unanimously at the Board of Trustees Meeting held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. As a result, no permits or certificates will be processed that would allow the cultivation, processing or retail dispensing of medical marijuana-related endeavors.
The extended moratorium will allow the board to continue its review of applicable statutes, codes and resolutions relative to medical marijuana initiatives within the township. Ohio Revised Code 3796.29 authorizes a township to adopt a resolution to prohibit or limit the medical marijuana industry within its boundaries. The ORC also provides townships the power to enact resolutions that are in the interest of the public health and safety of its citizens.
