[ARCHIVED] Miami Twp. police investigate suspicious device

MTPD PATCH

Miami Township police are investigating after a suspicious device was found attached to a vehicle parked outside the Village of Dayton Mall, 2770 Miamisburg Centerville Rd., just after 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers responded when a couple called for help upon returning to their car and noticed what appeared to be a black container that was attached to the driver’s side door handle. Officers immediately cordoned off the parking lot and stopped traffic from entering and exiting the mall. The Dayton Bomb Squad and the Dayton Airport K9 were then called to the scene. Patrons of Bravo and neighboring businesses were ordered to stay inside and were moved to the rear of their respective locations for their safety.

“Until we knew exactly what we were dealing with, we used the upmost caution. The safety of everyone in the area was and is our top priority,” Miami Township Police Chief Ronald L. Hess said.

The bomb squad determined that there were no explosives involved. Patrons were permitted to safely leave the businesses approximately three hours later. No arrests were made, but police do have a person of interest in this case.
