Annual Street Resurfacing Program

The Road Department is preparing for the 2010 Resurfacing Program. A total of nearly 5 miles of Township roadway will be resurfaced this year.

  • Five streets will receive an asphalt overlay through Montgomery County's Asphalt Resurfacing Program.
  • Ten streets will receive a Slurry Seal overlay treatment.

All residents that live on streets scheduled for resurfacing will receive prior notification of the details regarding temporary lane closures or parking restrictions. All streets on this year's resurfacing schedule will be crack sealed by Miami Township prior to the resurfacaing applications.

The following streets will receive an asphalt overlay through Montgomery County's Asphalt Resurfacing Program: Bushwick Drive-West, Cluster Lane, Newmark Drive, Rolling Street, Rover Court. These streets will be milled down on the edges prior to the asphalt application.

The following streets will be Slurry Sealed: Bushwick Drive-East, Brahms Boulevard, Cromer Boulevard, Edgerton Drive, Hatteras Court, Lehigh Place-East, Loris Drive, Muzette Court, Pewter Hills Court and West Knoll Court. A bidding packet will be formed and advertised and the project award will go to the lowest and best bidder.

Notes on Slurry: Slurry was invented in Germany in the 1930’s as a fast setting, highly durable, low cost paving and surface treatment. Slurry Seal is a mix of small aggregate, emulsion, filler and water applied with a truck mounted spreader box. Slurry applications correct small roadway deficiencies, provide a weather tight barrier, preserve asphalt pavement and improve skid resistance. The initial Slurry surface will be slightly more coarse than an asphalt overlay, but will smooth out over time with vehicle traffic. Slurry Seal is a preventative maintenance product and extends the life of the asphalt pavement. The Township has been using Slurry as a preventative maintenance product for more than twenty years. Approximately 3-5 miles of Township roadway are resurfaced with Slurry each year.

Nearly $400,000 is budgeted for roadway resurfacing every year. There is nearly 90 linear miles of roadway in the Township. Streets are evaluated and resurfaced based on the severity of deterioration.
